People will tell you that love,
if it’s real,
is patient, soft, kind and inevitable.
They would be wrong.
Love is defiance.
Love is a contradiction
to our most fundamental of natures.
It is fighting
when everything we know tells us to surrender.
It is giving of our last complete piece
when the rest of us is shattered.
It is a revelation of weakness
we were designed to hide.
Love is an act of war.
It is an ongoing battle
that begins when we declare ourselves
our own greatest enemy
and love our only ally,
and if it is real,
it never ends.
True love doesn’t wait,
doesn’t liberate or bind or alter.
True love fights.
